Proper and Safe Skin Care for Children

Skincare for children should be kept basic, focusing on cleansing, moisturizing, and protection while using products specifically formulated for children that are gentle, hypoallergenic, and officially registered with national health authorities. Harsh active ingredients such as alcohol, parabens, and strong fragrances should be avoided. Start with a mild body cleanser, apply moisturizer if the skin is dry, and use sunscreen with SPF 30+ when children are going to be active outdoors.

Children’s Skincare Routine Guidelines

  • Cleansing: Bathe children using a gentle soap and avoid harsh ingredients. For facial cleansing, use a children’s facial wash only if needed, such as during pre-teen years (around age 10 and above).
  • Moisturizing: Apply baby or children’s lotion or cream after bathing while the skin is still slightly damp to maintain moisture.
  • Protection (Sunscreen): Use sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 to protect the skin from UV exposure, especially during outdoor activities. Reapply every 2–3 hours.
  • Choose Safe Products: Ensure all products are labeled for children, hypoallergenic, and registered with national authorities.
  • Patch Test: Before regular use, apply a small amount of the product to the child’s wrist to check for any allergic reactions.

Additional Tips

  • Children aged 1–5 years: Focus on gentle soap and light moisturizer only.
  • Children aged 10+ (pre-teens): Begin introducing basic skincare (cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen) consistently.
  • Body Care: Use soft-fabric clothing and ensure the child’s daily fluid intake is sufficient.
